The maximum study load for a semester is 20 academic units exclusive of physical education activity units and/ or 25 units including physical education. In special circumstances, in which a student has an exceptional record of academic achievement, the Counseling Department may consider a request to increase this limit.
Students are reminded that each unit of credit is calculated to involve a total of at least three (3) hours of classroom and outside time per week. Thus, a 20-unit study load represents a 60-hour work load each week. Students working full-time are advised NOT to attempt a full-time college program.
During Spring and Fall semesters
Twelve (12) units of credit is considered a minimum full-time program during a Spring or Fall semester; nine (9) units is considered three-quarters time; six (6) units is considered half-time; and 0.5 to 5.5 units is considered less than half-time.
During Summer semesters
The maximum study load for summer session is twelve (12) academic units excluding physical education and/or 15 units including physical education.
Six (6) units of credit is considered a minimum full-time program during a Summer semester; three (3) units is considered half-time.
