Knights Hang On for 5-4 Win Over West L.A.
The Knights edged West L.A., 5-4, on Tuesday to win their third consecutive game and improve to 3-3 on the season. Frank Lopez, who played three positions, went 3-for-4 with two runs and earned the win.
Freshman right fielder Cole Flint went 2-for-4 with two RBI and scored what turned out to be the winning run.
Tuesday's game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when catcher Wyatt Logan's double allowed Lopez to score from first base.
City added a second run in the seventh inning off a Cesar Fitch single that scored Lorenzo Martinez.
West L.A. designated hitter Gary Dixon tied the game in the top of the eighth with a two-RBI double, but the Knights came right back with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
With the bases loaded, Flint put the Knights ahead with a single up the middle that scored two runs. Flint then stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by West L.A.'s catcher. Conner Nelson came up next and hit a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Flint to come home.
Lopez, who came in to pitch in the top of the eighth, got into some trouble in the ninth by loading the bases with one out. Anthony Pizzo relieved Lopez, but gave up a two-out double that scored to runs.
Fortunately for the Knights, Pizzo put a stop to West L.A.'s rally by getting Madden Liang to fly out to end the game.
The Knights will hit the road for a game on Thursday, Feb. 16 at Long Beach, who they've already lost to, 5-0, on February 3.
City's next home game is scheduled for March 7 against Imperial Valley at 2 p.m. It will be opening game of the PCAC season. Box Score
