Knights Win Rain-Shortened Game Over Victor Valley, 9-0
2/7/2012
The SDCC baseball team earned its first win of the 2012 season on Tuesday afternoon in a rain-shortened, five inning game. The Knights defeated Victor Valley, 9-0, after dropping the first two games of the season to Saddleback last weekend.
The Knights used a two-out rally in the second inning to get a 2-0 lead. With Mitch Williams on first base, J.R. Atterbury doubled down the left field line. Carlos Borruel followed with a double of his own to bring in the two runs.
With the rain already coming down, the Knights came through with five runs in the third inning to take a commanding 7-0 advantage.
The inning was highlighted by Atterbury's 2-RBI single with the bases loaded. The Knights added two more runs in the fourth inning off a throwing error by Victor Valley center fielder Steven Beltran.
Jesse Hernandez earned the win after throwing five shutout innings. He struck out four and gave up five hits.
