    Knights Fall To IVC, 88-72

    1/13/2012

The Knights six-game PCAC winning streak was snapped by visiting Imperial Valley on Friday night as the Arabs defeated City, 88-72.

Knights' sophomore guard Stephon Lamar tied for a game-high with 28 points on 9-for-19 shooting in 39 minutes of action.

Imperial Valley came out strong and jumped out to an early 10-point lead, but the Knights stormed back with a 13-0 run to take the lead at 18-15. The Knights would extend their advantage to as many as seven points midway through the first half, but the Arabs countered with a 17-11 run in the final 8:58 to take a 47-41 lead at the half.

The Arabs continued that momentum in the second half and pushed their lead up to 64-49 with 11:12 remaining. The Knights got the deficit down to 11 points on a couple of occasions, but that would be as close as they would get. The Arabs' Brandon Newman scored 17 of his 28 points in the second half as he helped Imperial Valley pull away from the Knights.

Freshman guard Marvin Sykes had a hot start for the Knights and connected on three 3-pointers. He finished with 13 points.

Both teams have a 6-1 record in the PCAC and are tied for first place. The Knights are 12-6 overall.
