Knights Cruise To 75-45 Home Win Over Mesa
Evangeline Morga scored a season-high 24 points and Samera Henry added 22 in the Knights' 75-45 blowout home victory over Mesa on Friday. It was the first time this season that two players scored over 20 points in a game for City.
The Knights scored the first seven points of the game and then jumped out to a 12-3 lead as they took control early on. Henry scored 10 points and grabbed six of her game-high 12 rebounds in the first quarter.
City made 50 percent of its shots in the second quarter, while holding Mesa to 16.7 percent shooting and outscored Mesa, 20-6, to take a 42-16 halftime lead.
Mesa made a run in the second half, cutting the Knights' lead down to 16 points late in the third quarter, but that would be as close as the Olympians would get.
Henry made a layup near the end of the third quarter and Morga hit back-to-back three-pointers early in the fourth quarter to end any doubts as the Knights regained a 24-point lead with 7:00 minutes remaining.
The Knights took advantage of Mesa's 15 turnovers by scoring 19 points off of them. City won the rebound battle, 60-40, including 25 offensive rebounds that led to a 21-11 advantage on second chance points.
City recorded a season-high 24 assists on 32 made field goals. E'maniee Powell dished out a season-high 11 assists to go with four points and nine rebounds off the bench.
With the win, the Knights improved to 11-11 overall and 3-2 in the PCAC South, two games behind first place Grossmont with three conference games remaining.Box Score
