Knights Travel to Santa Monica For 1st Round Playoff

The SDCC women's basketball team defeated Southwestern, 85-78, last Wednesday to conclude the conference season at 6-2, but it wasn't until Friday night that the Knights were able to celebrate their first ever conference championship.

A loss by Grossmont to Southwestern in its final PCAC South game last Friday meant that the Knights moved into a first place tie in the conference, and thus securing a share of the PCAC South title.

And now, the PCAC South champion Knights have qualified for the postseason for the first time ever. They will travel to Santa Monica College for a first round CCCAA Southern California regional playoff on Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m.

In her fifth season as head coach, Andrea Aguilar has led the Knights to a 14-12 overall record, City's best record in school history. It's the most wins and the first time that they've finished above .500. The Knights went 13-13 in both 2013-14 and 2014-15.

The No. 19-seeded Knights go into their first playoff game having won four of their last five games.

The No. 14-seeded Santa Monica Corsairs won the Western State-South Conference with a 7-1 record and finished with a 19-9 overall record. They have won nine of their last 10 games.
