Gafare Posts Double-Double in 60-54 Loss to Citrus

Freshman guard Breeana Gafare scored a game-high 17 points to go with a season-high 13 rebounds in a 60-54 home loss to Citrus on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore point guard E'maniee Powell scored in double figures for the second straight game with 16 points. She also had three rebounds and three assists.

The Knights had a good start to the game as they took a 15-8 lead late in the first quarter, but it didn't last long. Citrus used an 11-0 run to take a 19-15 lead midway through the second quarter. The Knights, however, regained a 27-25 halftime lead after a steal by Desiree Prado and a breakaway layup by Angeleah Johnson that beat the buzzer.

It was a seesaw battle for most of the second half with neither team able to take a lead larger than three points until Citrus hit a 3-pointer with 6:58 remaining in the fourth quarter to put the Owls ahead, 47-43.

The Knights did not get any closer than within three points the rest of the way as Citrus pulled away for the road win.

City has lost four in a row and fell to 1-8 on the season. The Knights will play three games next week at MiraCosta's 2nd Annual Coast Classic.

The Knights will start with L.A. Harbor at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 18. They will then play Porterville at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and West L.A. at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
