Banks' Buzzer Beater Lifts Knights to Win Over SBVC

Vanessa Banks scored in double figures (11 points) for the first time this season, but it was her final two points that gave the Knights their first win since November 18 as she put in a layup as time expired to put City on top, 67-65, over San Bernardino Valley.

The Knights had a poor start and fell behind by 11 points in the first quarter, but their shooting improved in the second quarter as they cut into San Bernardino's lead. City made 53.3 percent of its shots in the second period and trailed by only a point, 36-35, at halftime.

City grabbed its first lead of the game on their first possession of the third quarter, but it wouldn't last long as the Wolverines scored on the next play. There were a total of eight lead changes in that quarter with San Bernardino going into the fourth quarter with a 54-52 lead.

The Wolverines extended their lead to 59-54, but a 11-0 run by the Knights put them ahead by six with 3:13 remaining.

San Bernardino came back to tie the game at 65-65 with 54 seconds left, and after a Knights' turnover and a SBVC missed shot, the Knights had the ball with 10 seconds remaining.

E'maniee Powell, who scored a team-high 18 points, had her 3-point shot blocked by SBVC's Brianne Cheatum, but the the ball fell into the hands of Banks who quickly turned and banked in a 3-footer as time expired.

The win snapped an 8-game losing streak as the Knights improved to 2-12 on the season.

Breanna Gafare scored 13 points and brought down 10 rebounds, her third double-double this season.

The Knights play at College of the Desert on Friday and will be back home on Wednesday, January 10 against Palomar.
