    Knights Knock Off Southwestern, 62-51

    2/5/2014

The Knights used a 13-0 run late in the second half to come from behind and defeat the PCAC-leading Southwestern Jaguars, 62-51, at Harry West Gym on Wednesday night. Alex Warren had another stellar performance, recording 17 points, 19 rebounds, and five blocks in the Knights' third straight win.

With the game tied at 35-35 midway through the second half, the Knights went on an 8-1 run to take a 43-36 lead, but the Jaguars immediately responded with a 10-0 run of their own to take a three-point lead.

The Knights, however, regained control of the game with a 13-0 run, which included eight points from Warren, to take a 56-46 lead with 2:11 remaining.

Darrian Castillo, who had 10 points, nine assists, and four rebounds, helped seal the victory by making 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch.

Nyadoup Lam scored 16 points to go with five rebounds. Mia Torres put in 10 points and brought down nine rebounds.

The Knights shot a poor 31.7 percent from the floor, but held Southwestern to an even worse 22.2 percent.

SDCC improved to 10-11 overall and 5-4 in the PCAC. The Knights have won three in a row and four of their last five games.

They now head back out on the road to play the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles (18-6, 7-2 PCAC), who are now tied for first place with Southwestern and Grossmont, on Friday, Feb. 7 at 5 p.m.
