Alex Warren Leads Knights in 70-38 Rout of MiraCosta
The SDCC women's basketball team finished the 2013-14 season on a 3-game win streak after routing MiraCosta, 70-38, at home on sophomore night. Alex Warren dominated both ends of the court and recorded her 18th double-double of the season with 21 points, 24 rebounds, and three blocks.
Second-year head coach Andrea Aguilar led the Knights to an overall record of 13-13 and PCAC record of 8-6. Both are all-time bests for the Knights and it's also the first time that they've finished at .500.
Warren and Mia Torres got the Knights off to a nice start by combining to score 18 of the Knights first 22 points. They helped take the Knights from a early 7-7 tie to a 33-17 halftime lead over MiraCosta. Torres scored 14 of her 18 points in the first half while Warren had 11 points and 17 rebounds.
The Knights started the second half off with a 10-2 run after consecutive buckets by Melanie San Nicolas who had seven points and six assists on the night. City's defense held MiraCosta to 24.6 percent shooting as the Knights built their lead up to as many as 34 points late in the game.
The Knights took advantage of MiraCosta's 15 turnovers by converting them into 23 points on the other end.
City's 34 offensive rebounds led to the Knights outscoring MiraCosta 31-1 on second chance points and 34-8 on points in the paint.
