San Diego City's women's basketball team held on for a 64-59 home win over San Diego Mesa in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference season opener on Wednesday night. Darrian Castillo made 11-of-12 free throws and totaled a team-high 15 points. Mia Torres had an impressive 14 points and 13 rebounds off the bench for the Knights who have now won four of their last five games.
The SDCC women's basketball team won the Knights' Colbert Classic championship for a second consecutive year after holding off Glendale, 64-56, in the title game. Freshman center Alex Warren was named tournament MVP after leading the Knights with 28 points, 24 rebounds, and six blocks. Melanie San Nicolas added 17 points, including 4-of-6 from beyond the three-point line, and was selected to the All-Tournament team along with Warren.
After playing their first eight games on the road, the Knights finally played their home opener on Saturday and treated the home crowd to a thrilling 62-62 victory over West Hills-Lemoore in the semifinals of the Knights' Colbert Classic. Sophomore forward Maria Torres led a late charge by scoring all 13 of her points in the final six minutes to help the Knights overcome a 10-point deficit.
The Knights were down seven points early in the second half, but used a 31-5 run to finish the game and defeated Grossmont, 64-45 in the final game of the 2012-13 season. The Knights, under first-year Head Coach Andrea Aguilar, finished the season on a two-game winning streak and tied the best record in the program's history at 12-15. The Knights achieved a 7-5 PCAC record which was the best in the school's history.
Shamonique Malone-Boyd and Maria Torres dominated the paint as they combined for 51 points and 31 rebounds to lead the Knights to a 76-53 home victory over Imperial Valley. It is the second time that the Knights have defeated IVC. The first came in the championship game of the Knights Invitational on December 16th.
Shamonique Malone-Boyd had a season-high 31 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and two blocks for the Knights, but it came in a losing effort as SDCC suffered an 86-59 home defeat to Southwestern.
The Knights held a 14-point lead midway through the second half, but couldn't hold on as Palomar rallied behind Alliya Pinckney's six 3-pointers to win, 80-77. Shamonique Malone-Boyd was in foul trouble for most of the game, but managed to score a team-high 22 points off the bench for the Knights.

The SDCC women's basketball team used a 13-0 run in the final five minutes of the championship game of the Knights Invitational Tournament to overcome a 9-point deficit and defeat Imperial Valley, 65-61. Diana Leasau led the Knights with 20 points and four assists.
The 4th Annual Knights Invitational Tournament begins Friday, December 14 at the Harry West Gym. The first game of the 5-team tournament will be played by Taft and Imperial Valley at 5 p.m. The Knights and Victor Valley will follow at 7 p.m.
