2016 Profiles

isaiah duenas

  • Coach Ian Cumming's Thoughts: Isaiah Duenas, a freshman, was a four-year varsity runner on very strong Olympian Eagle’s Cross Country and Track Teams. He is consistently in SDCC’s top 4 runners and looks to improve on a solid high school running career.

Ishmael fernandez-mata

  • Coach Ian Cumming's Thoughts: Ishmael Fernandez-Mata is the Knights only returning runner. As the #1 runner from last year, he provides much of the leadership on the team. With a much improved supporting cast, Ishmael is very excited about helping to lead the XC Team in a season of great improvement.

yvan hanscom-trofy

  • Coach Ian Cumming's Thoughts: Yvan Hanscom-Trofy comes to SDCC by way of Nebraska where he was a varsity runner at Plattsmouth High. One of the best runners on his team, this freshman is quickly moving up the ladder at SDCC after suffering a hip injury last spring.

juan magana

  • Coach Ian Cumming's Thoughts: James Magana, a freshman, attended high school at Diego Hills Charter and is competing in his first team sport. He is a very positive addition to The Knights X-Country program.

antonio marquez

  • Coach Ian Cumming's  Thoughts: Antonio is a sophomore, but is competing in his first year of cross country. His strong work ethic is an inspiration to our other team members.

jose nobles

  • Class: Jose, a newcomer to SDCC, was a solid varsity performer for two years on Otay Ranch High’s perennial Mesa League Championship Team. In early completion, Jose has finished 1st and 2nd on the Knights’ highly improved Cross Country Team.

arturo jose sandez

  • Coach Ian Cumming's Thoughts: Jose Sandez is a freshman out of Chula Vista High School, where he did not compete. However, he has been the Knights # 5 runner so far and is closing the gap on our very good top 4 runners.

ryan velasquez

  • Coach Ian Cumming's Thoughts: Ryan Velasquez of Otay Ranch is in his first year at SDCC. Ryan had some very fast races in high school, including a 16:30 on the hilly and classic 3-Mile Mt San Antonio College course. He is off to a strong start and is ready to improve greatly on a solid high school career.
