Head Coach - Marco Anzures
Marco Anzures takes over as the head women’s cross country coach in 2015. Anzures comes to San Diego City College after spending the 2013-14 season as head men’s and women’s cross country coach at Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA. He coached athletes at University City High School in 2011-12 and at the University of San Diego in 2012-13.
At Cerritos College, Anzures guided the men’s and women’s teams to fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively, at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Cross Country Championships. In addition, he had an individual place sixth overall in the men’s competition. These finishes equaled or bettered all-time program bests.
During the 2014 CCCAA track & field season, Anzures guided five athletes to the state meet where they took first (men’s 1500m), third (men’s 1500m), and sixth (men’s 800m), respectively.
Anzures competed at the University of California Los Angeles on the cross country and track & field teams from 2005-2010. He was a three-time NCAA Division I championship qualifier in cross country and earned PAC-10 conference and West region honors in 2009. As a member of the track & field team, Anzures posted a personal best of 29:00 in the 10,000m, which ranks fifth all-time at UCLA.
Academically, Anzures was a three-time selection to the UCLA Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and also earned multiple PAC-10, MPSF, and USTFCCCAA academic team honors. He graduated from UCLA with a B.A. degree History and earned his M.S. degree in Exercise Science in 2013 from California University of Pennsylvania.
Anzures graduated from St. Augustine High School in San Diego as a six-time league champion in cross country and track & field, as well as a two-time All-State selection in cross country. Anzures currently coaches his wife, Natasha LaBeaud, a Canadian distance standout. In addition, he and his wife operate a youth non-profit, 2nd Recess, that uses running as an obesity prevention tool. He and Natasha live in San Diego near Balboa Park.

assistant Coach - lucy gonzalez
Lucero “Lucy” Gonzalez comes to San Diego City College for her first year as assistant women’s cross country coach. Gonzalez graduated from San Diego High School in 2010 and attended San Diego State University where she obtained her B.A. in Communication.
Gonzalez has close ties to San Diego City College after also completing the fitness specialist program within the exercise science department in the spring of 2016. She is now working on her certification as an ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) personal trainer and is completing her requirements for admittance into the M.A. exercise physiology program at SDSU.
Gonzalez began running in high school, but started her competitive career as student-athlete at City College with the cross country team in 2012-2013. Gonzalez also competed as a soccer player on City College’s team in 2014-2015. After her time at City, she began training for road races and even participated in a triathlon boot camp where she was coached by 3x world professional Xterra triathlete Lesley Paterson.
In 2015, Gonzalez started assisting head coach Eric Chrisman of LAC (Latinas a Correr), a group that focuses on helping Latina women stay healthy by running. In January 2016 she was promoted to head coach of the team. In addition to these duties, Gonzalez volunteers her time as a coach at 2nd Recess, a youth nonprofit the introduces kids to fun and fitness through running.
