Head Coach - guillermo medina

Guillermo Medina is in his first year as head coach of the women's soccer program at San Diego City College.

Guillermo earned a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies at National University. He completed a Master's in Physical Education at Azusa University as well as a Master’s in Multicultural Education at National University.

Coach Medina, a San Diego native, played varsity soccer at Southwest High school in San Diego where he was a two-year captain and received League honors. After high school, Guillermo played collegiate soccer at Southwestern College for two seasons. He then transferred to United States International University and continued his playing career while captaining the teams he played on for two more years.

Guillermo played professionally for the San Diego Gauchos in the United Soccer League from 2002-2004. He began coaching boys’ soccer at his alma mater, Southwest High, as the junior varsity head coach. From 2005-12, he was the boys’ varsity soccer head coach also at Southwest High School. All 7 years, his teams advanced to the CIF playoffs, culminating with CIF runner-up banners in 2008 and 2009. During this tenure his teams won 4 league championships. He served as the girls’ varsity head coach from 2015-2017. In 2016 his team won league and CIF championships.

Guillermo has extensive experience coaching various levels ranging from the prestigious Olympic Development Program, men’s’ college and university, as well as youth club.

 In addition to coaching soccer, Guillermo is a bilingual social science teacher at Southwest High in the South Bay. He and his wife Angelica, have two daughters, Ximena and Camila.
