Hall's Walk-Off Single Lifts Knights Over San Bernardino

The San Diego City College softball team earned its first home win of the season in dramatic fashion as Emily Hall hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give City the 5-4 victory over San Bernardino Valley.

Hall had her best offensive output of the season, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Avery Bruce went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

The Knights were the first to score on Wednesday with two runs in the bottom of the second. Hall led the inning off with a walk and was followed by Heather Clough, who reached base on a fielder's choice. Both runners advanced on pitcher Dalen Dull's sacrifice bunt and then came home on a double by Bruce to give City the early 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third with runners in scoring position, Hall singled through the right side to score Madeline Ley and Randee Jane Burkle to put the Knights ahead, 4-0.

San Bernardino responded with four runs of their own in the top of the fourth to tie the game. The Wolverines scored a run on a double and a sacrifice fly. Then, with two out, Knights second baseman Clough's dropped pop fly allowed two more runs to score.

Dull retired the side in the seventh inning, which set the Knights up for a perfect ending. With two out and Ley on first after reaching on a single, Brooke Wickersheim singled through the right side to put runners at the corners for Hall and she came through with a long single to deep right field that allowed Ley to score the winning run.

The Knights are now 1-3 in the PCAC and 3-11 overall. They will play their next two games on the road at Rio Hondo on Friday and at Southwestern on March 15.
