Shaw Drives In Lone Run For Knights' 2nd Straight Win
The SDCC softball team completed a season sweep of Imperial Valley on Friday by edging the Arabs, 1-0. It was the second consecutive victory for the Knights and the third win over Imperial Valley this season.
Dating back to last season, the Knights now have a five-game winning streak against Imperial Valley.
Friday's game was scoreless going into the top of the fifth inning, but that's when the Knights were finally able to break the tie. Carleen Casey led the inning off with a single and then stole second base. She advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by starting pitcher Katie Dowdy and then scored what turned out to be the winning run on Meghan Shaw's single up the middle.
The Arabs threatened in the top of the seventh with runners on first and second base with one out, Dowdy got IVC's final batter to hit into a game-ending double play.
Dowdy allowed only two hits on the day with two strikeouts in seven innings of work in the circle.Box Score
