Knights Edge MSJC, 4-3, For 6th Straight Win
The San Diego City College softball team continued its strong finish to the season by edging Mt. San Jacinto, 4-3, for the Knights' sixth consecutive victory. Haylee Schriner put the Knights on top for good with an RBI double in the top of the eighth inning.
Schriner drove in the first run of the game in the top of the second inning with a single to center field. Tiana Houston who led the inning off with a triple scored on Schriner's hit.
In the third inning, Carleen Casey reached on a single and was moved over to second base on Katie Dowdy's sacrifice bunt. Casey then stole third base and later scored on an error to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.
Dowdy led off the top of the sixth with a single and, after moving over to third base on consecutive ground outs by Meghan Shaw and Brianna Leigh-Pink, crossed home plate for the 3-0 lead on Houston's second triple of the day.
Mount San Jacinto, however, rallied back in the bottom of the seventh with three runs to force extra innings. Rayna Winter scored on a passed ball and Jacinda Steward drove in two runs with an infield hit.
Shaw got the Knights started in the eighth inning by reaching on an error. With one out, Houston singled to left field to put Shaw in scoring position, then Schriner doubled down the left field line to bring in Shaw from second base for what turned out to be the winning run.
Dowdy (7-15), who allowed two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts, retired the side in the bottom of the eighth inning to preserve the Knights' 4-3 victory of the Eagles.Box Score
