Knights Participate in MLK Parade
On Sunday, January 19 members of the SDCC men's volleyball program participated in the Martin Luther King Parade in downtown San Diego. The parade took place on Harbor Drive and the Knights, along with many other San Diego organizations, payed tribute to Martin Luther King by marching in the parade.
"It was an honor participating in the parade and I am really glad Athletic Director Kathy McGinnis invited us to be involved," said Assistant Coach Mike Stara.
The men's volleyball players that participated in the parade were Mehdi Sekkat and Matheus Marinho. "I like the fact that this men's volleyball program respects the community and likes to help make a difference,” said Sekkat. “Coach Pratte has told us to get used to getting out in the community and changing lives.”
During the parade, the men's volleyball team had the opportunity to show appreciation to Martin Luther King while also getting a chance to formally meet leaders of San Diego City College. Before the parade, SDCC President Lynn Neault took the time to meet with the volleyball team and take a picture.
"It was an incredible experience to be part of the Martin Luther King parade,” said Head Coach Kevin Pratte. “The student-athletes involved had an opportunity to network, bond as a team, and pay respect to Martin Luther King. This program values building up a student-athlete to be successful after they play volleyball and being involved in these types of events are life changing for my student-athletes.”
