Knights Ranked No. 24 After 5-0 Start

The San Diego City College women's volleyball team has started the 2017 season with wins in all five matches and are one of only six teams that remain undefeated. As a result, the Knights are ranked No. 24 in the first CCCWVCA poll of the season.

The Knights opened the new season with sweeps of Santiago Canyon and Santa Ana in a home doubleheader on September 1. They then traveled to Golden West on September 7 where the Knights dropped the first set, but rallied back to win the next three and earned a 3-1 road victory.

City participated in another doubleheader last Friday at East Los Angeles where they swept both the host and Cal Lutheran Jr. in three sets.

Next up for the Knights will be a road match at Rio Hondo on Wednesday, September 13 followed by a home double header on September 15 against Chaffey and No. 19 Long Beach. Those home matches will begin at 2 p.m.

Lynette Serna and Brielle McKinnon lead the Knights with 41 total kills a piece. Shatha Julima isn't far behind with 38 kills.

Setter Alyssa Dincoff is averaging 11 assists per set and has recorded a total of 176.

On defense, Briana Reid and Serna lead the team with 61 and 54 digs, respectively. Julia Ferraro has 11 blocks so far.

Listen to Head Coach Dede Bodnar and players Megan Seyer, Marissa Thomas, and Shatha Julima talk about their hot start on the Bluehorse Services Podcast (recorded before last Friday's matches).
