HBCU’s & HSI's


Historically Black Colleges and Universities are institutions established prior to 1964 whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans. These institutions must be accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association determined by the Secretary of Education.


Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) are defined as colleges, universities, or systems/districts where total Hispanic enrollment constitutes a minimum of 25% of the total enrollment.

San Diego City College is an HSI with a Hispanic enrollment above 25%.
