what is first year services

The First Year Services (FYS) office provides support to all students who are in their first year at San Diego City College. After applying to City College all new students are required to contact  the FYS office to schedule their mandatory Math and English assessments, New Student Orientation and first semester planning sessions. 


The First Year Service Office also offers the First Year Experience (FYE) opportunity to specially eligible first time students. Participation in FYE comes with additional support benefits. Click here to review the benefits and eligibility requirements for FYE participation.

First Year New Student Orientation

New Student orientation provides important information to students about the programs and services available at City College as well as strategies for student success.

As a new student you are required to attend a New Student Orientation before registering for your classes. A first time student's first meeting with a counselor for course semester planning will take place ONLY at orientation, no exceptions.

ORIENTATION  IS A TWO STEP PROCESS

1. Online
Complete the San Diego City College Online Orientation
From www.sdcity.edu, select “Online Services” then “Online Orientation (Virtual Tour)
To get the most out of your first-semester planning with a counselor at the on-campus orientations,complete the online orientation before the on-campus one.
    2. On Campus
    Attend an on-campus orientation session after viewing the online orientation. Sign up by calling  619 388 3998 or visit at  First Year Services  L206
    As a new student your first meeting with a counselor will take place at orientation. Counselors will help you plan your first semester
    Visit campus events calendar for orientation dates     
        Orientations for Fall 2012 enrollment will be available in May.  Please check the event calendar and this website for the next available date.
