Nearly 600 students, faculty members, administrators, and managers attended this year’s City Women Rock (CWR) Conference at San Diego City College, which is now in its sixth year.
The one-day, virtual summit focused on inspiring, encouraging, and empowering female students for leadership development and course completion and transfer.
The Summit included the college's Associated Student Government President Victoria Boahemaa Owusu, who shared her unique educational path as a woman scholar and student body representative. Featured speakers included keynote Dr. Susan Topman, vice chancellor of Educational Services at the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD); and radio personality Geena, host of “Geena the Latina and Frankie V Morning Show.”
Tophom oversees district educational planning services encompassing student services and instructional programs across SDCCD. Geena was voted "Best Radio Personality" in the San Diego Union-Tribune in 2019. In 2018, she was recognized by California Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher's 80th district as Woman of the Year.
The event, where 90 percent of students who participated were first-time attendees, included workshops facilitated by influential women in the community. These leaders engaged students in a dynamic and interactive experience that helped ignite their motivation towards leadership, access to voice, self-care, empowerment, and career.
