From City College to Ghana
A recent trip to Ghana provided a new perspective on Africa for San Diego County community college educators and students and ignited a push to highlight the important role that the continent and its people have made to the world.
Rafael Alvarez, MESA Director, Selected as a 2022 Top 50 Latino Leaders of Influence
Congratulations to Rafael Alvarez, director of the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Program at San Diego City College, for being selected as a 2022 Top 50 Latino Leaders of Influence by the San Diego Business Journal (SDBJ). Other district administrators to make the list: Chancellor Carlos O. Cortez and San Diego College of Continuing Education President Tina M. King.
City College Alumna Moves Equity Programs Forward
Bianca Elisa Arellano, student services technician for Equity Programs at San Diego City College, is supporting students with stories just like hers to fulfill their academic and professional goals. “This feels full circle to be in the exact position that helped me as a student,” said Arellano, who went to City College from 2011 to 2015 and was a member of the Puente program. “Puente taught me about self-advocacy, my identity, and culture. You thrive in the environment that empowers you. I never imagined in high school that I would be in a Ph.D. program, and it is all because of City College.”
