MUSIC 100: Introduction to Music
Develop a deeper understanding of the elements of music. Learn to listen more closely through the study of musical masterpieces by the great composers of the Western classical tradition such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Stravinsky.
MUSIC 103: History of Rock Music
Learn the origins and development of rock and roll music from the early 1950s to present. The course focuses on the evolution of different styles within the genre as well as the social, political, economic and cultural contexts of rock music.
MUSIC 109: World Music
Explore the music cultures of Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and other areas with resident populations in San Diego. Musical practices and perspectives from several music cultures are studied with an emphasis on understanding and appreciation from non-ethnocentric viewpoints.
MUSIC 111: Jazz History
This course is designed to give you the tools to help you listen more closely, write more clearly, and appreciate more deeply this truly American art form. Investigate the music and personal histories of Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis, and many more.
