Associated Student Government (ASG)
A Special Message From Our ASG President
Welcome to San Diego City College! My name is Celina Martinez, and I am the newly
elected ASG (Associated Student Government) President and Student Trustee for San
Diego City College. I’m currently a Community and Economic Development Intern for
the Metropolitan Area Advisory Commitee and the founder of our college’s first mock
trial
team! I aim to become an attorney specializing in immigration and corporate law. My
major is Political Science, and I hope to transfer to a four-year university as this
is my last year at San Diego City College!
As an individual whose first language is not English, I found struggles at first to truly find who I was in the United States. These struggles included me not doing so well in school and finding myself not having a clue what to do after high school. That changed when I decided to enroll at San Diego City College where I have made progress academically more than ever before. From then on, I found myself joining ASG, a community that advocates not just for themselves, but also for those who cannot.
My experiences in ASG include being the Government Affairs Officer and being the Delegate for our college. These are positions where I have held the responsibility of being the voice of our students’ needs, being the representative vote for our school, and becoming the liaison between the SSCCC (Student Senate for California Community Colleges) and ASG. I learned valuable lessons from these experiences, and I hope to apply the knowledge acquired to shape an incredible atmosphere for the upcoming school year through new memories, advocacy, and most importantly teamwork!
San Diego City College ASG is an amazing place where students can learn more about the policy shaping the environment and become involved. In the ASG, students discover their infinite potential, develop their leadership and learn how to advocate while serving our student body!
Joining ASG is one of the best decisions I made while I pursue my associate's degree. I see student leadership on campus as an integral part of the college community as it allows us to engage with one another and enhance the student life experience.
As the ASG President, I plan on focusing on community engagement, creating resolutions, and building a friendly environment. Students should always feel confident in their right to voice their concerns and be heard. I want to create and collaborate on community building events and activities that motivate students to build on their career and academic goals while also having fun!
I look forward to all of the possibilities and want to personally invite you to discover ASG and consider becoming an essential part of the campus community where all students’ voices matter! Please join us at our weekly meetings every Wednesday from 1:00-2:30 PM in M-201 during the Spring and Fall semesters. I hope to see you there!
Again, welcome back! Here’s to a terrific semester full of exciting experiences at
City!
