How to Apply

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the STEM Pathways program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be currently enrolled at San Diego City College.
  • Be majoring in an Eligible STEM discipline. (refer to Eligible STEM majors below)
  • Intend to transfer to San Diego State University.
  • Be enrolled full-time at the community college and plan to continue full-time enrollment upon transferring to SDSU.
  • Students from Latinx/Hispanic/Chicano backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
    Eligible STEM Majors: 

    • Astronomy,

    • Biology,

    • Chemistry,

    • Computer Science,

    • Environmental Science,

    • Engineering, Geology,

    • Math,

    • Physics,

    • Statistics

Application Requirements:
  1. Personal Statement (1-2 pages, PDF format):
    • Outline your educational and career goals, along with your interest in STEM.
    • Detail your plans for transferring to a four-year institution.
    • Describe any relevant activities or experiences (e.g., MESA participation, workshops, job training, research, community service) that have prepared you for your career and educational goals.
    • Discuss any challenges or hardships you have faced that impacted your educational journey.
    • Explain how the STEM Pathways program will be beneficial to your academic and career development.
  2. Academic Transcripts:
    • Provide transcripts showing coursework up to the current semester, including your current GPA. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable and should be submitted in PDF format.
  3. Resume:
    • Submit a professional or academic resume. Including a curriculum vitae (CV) is optional. Ensure the document is in PDF format.
  4. Letters of Recommendation:
    • Identify up to two (2) referees in your application who will submit letters of recommendation on your behalf. Letters should be sent directly by your referees to [email protected].

How to Submit:

Complete your application by gathering all required documents in PDF format and submit them as directed in the application instructions available on the STEM Pathways program website.
