About the Program

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) is hosted at UCSD and sponsored by the SD IRACDA program. It is an 8-week, full-time, mentored research internship in Biomedical Sciences specifically for San Diego City College Students. The SD IRACDA program aims to diversify participation in sciences so students from diverse, underserved, or underrepresented populations are highly encouraged to apply.

What should you expect from the IRACDA SURF program?

Mentored research internship at UCSD within the broad field of biomedical sciences that includes the following:

Research mentorship from SD IRACDA postdoctoral fellows conducting biomedical research

Participation in ~40 hours of program activities per week for 8 weeks; typically during business hours Monday through Friday

Engagement in 6-8 hours of enriching and challenging laboratory research each day

Participation in weekly professional development and community building to develop your professional skills and network
Present research at the SURF Undergraduate Research Symposium
Receive a stipend of $5000
Earn eligibility for $350 to cover meeting registration upon receipt of a national conference travel award
