Transfer information provided is based on general UC & CSU deadlines and is subject to change without notice. Some dates may vary by campus. Please meet with your counselor to review the most current information for your transfer campus.

Application Checklist & Timeline - Fall Transfer Students

Spring (the year before transfer) – Get Ready for Transfer

  • Meet with a counselor to review your Education Plan and confirm transfer admission requirements.
  • UC Applicants: Update your UC Transfer Admission Planner (UC TAP) in order to submit a UC Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) application in September (if applicable).

Summer (the year before transfer) – Application Preparation

  • June-July: Draft UC Personal Insight Questions (UC applicants only.)
  • August 1: UC Application opens (submit between October 1-November 30). For fall 2025 only, the UC application deadline is extended to December 2. Start your application at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply. If you have a UC TAP account you may import the data to your UC application.
  • Private & Out-of-State Universities: Research deadlines and financial aid requirements for your respective institutions.

Fall (one year prior to your transfer term) – Application Season

  • September 1-30: Submit your UC TAG application (if applicable).
  • October 1: CSU application opens (submit between October 1-November 30). For fall 2025 only, the CSU application deadline is extended to December 2. Begin your application at www.calstate.edu/apply.
  • October – November: Attend Application Workshops and/or Application Labs in the Transfer Center or with your prospective transfer university.
  • October - March: Complete FAFSA/California Dream Act (CADAA) by financial aid priority deadlines.
  • December - Attend a Next Steps workshop hosted by the Transfer Center.
  • Submit your CSU and/or UC application by December 2nd.

Winter (prior to transfer) – Next Steps After Applying

  • Check your email, set up and monitor your portal regularly for updates and next steps from your prospective universities.
  • January 31: Deadline to submit your UC Transfer Academic Update (TAU) & complete the CSU Academic History Update with fall grades & spring schedule.
  • Complete CSU supplemental applications (e.g., SJSU, CSULB) and program materials (e.g., music, film) if required.
  • Apply for graduation no later than February 15 in your mySDCCD portal if you will be earning an Associate Degree for Transfer by the end of spring.
  • February-March: Verify Cal Grant status and financial aid completion.

Spring (the semester prior to your transfer admission term) – Admission Decisions & Enrollment

  • March-April: Universities release admission decisions.
  • April-May: Compare financial aid offers, attend admitted student events, and submit your Intent to Enroll (CSU: May 1, UC: June 1) along with payment and transcripts if required. *Deadlines may vary. Please check deadlines for your respective schools.
  • Order final transcripts to reflect spring grades & submit request for GE Certification (CSUGE, IGETC) if applicable. Students earning an Associate Degree for Transfer for CSU Admissions will need to submit an additional transcript showing completion of your degree.
  • Secure housing (if applicable).

Summer (immediately prior to transfer) – Prepare to Transition to Your New School

  • July 1: Submit final documents & test scores (UC & CSU deadlines vary).
  • July-August: Attend orientation prepare for your new university journey!
