Program Emphasis
The Business Studies department offers five program areas. These include the Business Studies Transfer area and four areas with the entry level vocational coursework: Small Business Management and Real Estate. There are many certificates in each area that students may take to prepare them for certain job skills. However, only one associate degree can be awarded. A student must choose an associate degree in Transfer or Accounting or Small Business Management or Real Estate.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest level certificate you can earn. The Certificates of Performance are stepping stones to earning this Certificate of Achievement. You will gain knowledge in planning to start, operate, or work in small businesses. This certificate is 36 units and consists of an average of fourteen courses.

This certificate is designed for persons who are already in the workforce or own and operate their own small business. The certificate is deal for people who seek to improve their professional proficiencies or acquire new skills. This certificate requires 12 units and consists of four courses. Complete this certificate to learn basic management principles, human relations, and improve your skills in written and oral business communication and marketing. - Sports Management
This certificate explores the sports industry, focusing on sports management and business communication methods. Students learn about sports management topics including sales, marketing, game operations, finances, public relations, communications, and customer service. Emphasis is placed on careers in the sports industry. It requires 9 units and consists of three courses. - Starting and Managing a Small Business
This certificate is designed for people who currently own, operate, or work for a small business and want to strengthen their business skills. Study small business management, business plan development, and the principles of marketing. It requires 9 units and consists of three courses. - Business Communications and Cultural Competence
This certificate is designed to enhance business and interpersonal relationships. Students will learn to use successful communication techniques and develop an understanding of cross-cultural communication, including the nuances of verbal and nonverbal language. It requires 6 units and consists of two courses. - Business Operations - Cannabis Dispensary
This Certificate explores the fundamental practices of managing a cannabis dispensary. Emphasis is placed on specific operational skills needed for the industry, including management, legal compliance, accounting, and security. - Business Presentations
Enhance your skills with business software for word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentations. This certificate requires 6 units and consists of only two courses. - Customer Relationship Management
This certificate focuses on the fundamentals of customer service and professional selling. Prepare for an entry level position or refine your skills. It requires 6 units and consists of two courses. - Writing and Computational Skills for Business
In completing this certificate, students will practice the fundamentals of business math and written and oral communication, learn practical aspects of math as it is used in business, and apply effective communication in a variety of business situations. This certificate is for students who want to gain hands-on experience working in teams operating on-campus businesses. It requires 7 units that can be completed in two semesters in an on-campus internship.
